Diamond is one of our favorite brands here at SK8 Clothing. They really know how to mix the right blend of sophistication and street for that really clean look.
Diamond Supply Co. was established in 1998 by the skater/designer Nicholas Tershay AKA Nick Diamond in San Francisco. It began as a skateboard hardware brand making nuts and bolts, which later expanded into bearings and grip tape. Soon after its inception Nick moved to Los Angeles to grow the brand from the Girl Skateboard distribution house. The range of products grew quickly and in no time included decks, bearings, tees, sweaters, accessories and more.
In 2005 Nike Skateboarding requested that Nick design a Diamond SB Dunk, so he created the SB Dunk Low “Tiffiny”. It drew on iconic colours from Tiffany & Co making it very luxurious, and it is now regarded as one of the greatest Nike SB’s of all time.
Diamond Supply opened its first flagship store in Los Angeles around 2006. Since the opening day it’s been a common sight to see a line wrapped around the block for the latest releases. Famous skaters and rappers a like pop in on a regular basis to check out the new wares.
The company really blew up in 2012 and went from being a regular skateboard brand to one of the most iconic labels in streetwear. While there’s no single tipping point, collabs with shops like UNKWN and celebrity co-signs from the likes of Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y sure didn’t hurt. Even Lil Wayne was rocking Diamond Supply back when he was relevant.
Nick Diamond says that what sets them apart is their strong design aesthetic and commitment to quality goods – we’d have to agree with him. Diamond Supply Co now has over a hundred skaters on its team, which includes the likes of (the legendary) Eric Koston, Mike Carroll, and Paul Rodriguez. The company doesn’t look like it’s going to be slowing down anytime soon.
